I have had a slow year with not many races one first two seconds and a forth.
As far as mid season upgrades I thinking of putting the motor out of the full size into my S-10 for the rest of the year.

Jed that's still pretty good!! We won about 70% of the time this year. With the small motor at the end we still won two outa three and placed a third!! If we come out next year it's going to be a crazy motor!! Not the biggest, not the fastest but the wildest. Have a big dream, going to see what we can do about it. ;D Just looked in at the truck and it bled (spilled tranny fluid) all over the floor. It's showing it's still mortally wounded!! Jeffro

Jeff what you call a small motor is still 100+ cubes over my little SBC. My be I should look into a big block?

Jed your motors run great...but....there is a reason they have cubic displacement rules in NASCAR, truck pulling and other motor sports. If a small block would keep up I'd have one in a second!!! I have been beat by a few but when it happens they have me by almost 1000 pounds less.
But I sure know a lot of guys that are die hard small block supporters and will not give up on their small blocks!! I'm just glad they don't put that kind of efffort into big blocks!! We'd be in serious do-do!!LOL
PS Ford small blocks don't seem to run as well as chevy small blocks for some reason. They give up on those pretty quick!!LOL

There is no replacement for displacement, period..
For the year bog 1st --3 2nd -1 5-th 1 open class
Drags. well not counting that as first time.
Upgrades for me never end. Just spent all last night tearing down the front end and putting bigger studs on both sides. Carburetor is getting closer will be making some more changes today hopefully if I have time. I need to fix my fan and starter first. Going to head up to the peat monster today.

Kenneth do you feel that in the racing we're doing the difference in motor weight alone, makes up for the total package how a truck will place?
You can really beat someone by several hundred pounds of motor weight when we are talking about so much overall mass that our trucks weigh?
Just wondering?

there is the extra weight of the big block plus the extra weight of a dana 60 to keep from braking shaft. so there is more than just a couple hundred pounds. I'm not saying that small blocks are better just saying there is a good weight savings.

Jed,
I figured you'd weigh in on this one as you should!! I was simply taking about engines, not my truck specifically. I know I'm way heavy. If I was that worried I wouldn't have chose a 79!! 80's cabs are over 500 pounds lighter. Then a good built 44 and 9 inch would be the way to go.
We just wanted to keep it somewhat low budget and durable. I know we aren't going to hang with the real drag trucks and not hang with the real bog trucks but we kinda do the middle of the road stuff.
But I was wondering if the motor alone people would think that the couple hundred pounds saved on the engine would make up for the performance. Depending what hole you hit your first pass can easily put 500 pounds more of mud on your truck for the 2nd pass, can't it? I've had almost 1200 pounds of mud on my truck before!!!

WOW 1200 pounds of mud. was that wet mud or after it dried? I have never weighed the mud cleaned off the truck but I would never guessed that much.

I finished second. It was a nasty pit. rain all night and half of the morning. I laid the path and the guy behind me beat me by 4". So it was close to say the least.
After I reread my post about displacement. It sounded like I came off as a dick. I didn't mean it that way, just stating my opinion.
There are so many variables, and I am glad that this thread is going in the direction it is. This is going to get interesting as well as informative. I cleaned off the trailer today. It was 25 shovel fulls at at least 50 pounds a crack. Plus what was still on my truck that I did not clean off!!!
If you run a small block d44 all the way in the drag. Put some chromo's in it and go. In the bog 44 has no place even in a stock truck as far as I am concerned. I snapped many with a 375 hp with 33's. I snapped my 60 5 times with a big block and 35's. If you seen me drive, I only get off for women and children.
more to add later, need to spend some time with the better half.
