Well the S-10 is ready to go racing. I'm loaded and ready to head to Gussies in the morning. There is still some stuff I need to do, but close enough to go racing.

What a crappy day. Heavy rain all stay right when the racing got started. Drags were not able to run as it was a soup bowl.
On the other hand, back to the drawing board for me. It was not the vent or the fuel pump. Think that I have a handle on it, we shall see at the last race.

yeah it was a mess at gussies,i pulled out as i'm not waterproofed enough for that.went to iron horse on sunday and just off the starting line was a hole,hit it and took out the crosspin in my front locker on my first pass,not sure what else is bad.gary(pitbull) also broke a front axleshaft on his first pass but still managed a 1st place there too.in fact there were quite a few broke trucks,most in 400 class broke,hard times broke,and i believe mj and justin also had some carnage

So Jenks, your still not fixed? Sorry about your breakage Rich!! too bad about Gussies weather!! In Missouri the weather was absolutely perfect. Both days actually Sunday in southern Illinois was pretty good too!

Not fixed yet. But I am narrowing it down. If these last changes don't fix it I will be at a loss.
Installed a new BIGGER fuel pump, much larger than I need, as well as a better vent in my tank.
The carburetor change did wonders. I got me up on the rev limiter for the first time. Problem that I am having is that the fuel pressure keeps falling so it is still running out of fuel. It does it in second gear just as I come up to grab third then blahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Step off the gas and put it right back to the floor and the pump shot gives it a spirt then same. Give it a second then get back in it. By that time I have lost all momentum.
Possibility 1. My bypass regulator is sticking and sending fuel back to the tank instead of the carb. New dead head style regulator on the way, which is supposed to handle sudden changes in load very well. Drill new return in tank and route bypass off of pump back to top of tank.
Possibility 2. My regulator is mounted on my firewall there is approximately 2' of line to feed the bowl on one and 3' of line to fill the other bowl. I have been told that the lines need to be of equal length and bends. With the new regulator I am going to try and fit it in right next to the carb. There will only be a few inches of line from the reg to the carb then. Will be a tight fit under my snorkel, but will see if it will fit.
Possibility 3. Fuel filter is a piece of crap. Wouldn't think that it would be. I change out the element on a regular basis, but a new better higher flowing model is on the way as well.

Jenks,
Sounds like you are on the right track to me. You've identified the problem and now have further complications to go with your original problem. I have the same kind of regulator hose thing going on. I do see a lot of drag cars mount them right to the carb.
I believe you'll get it soon!! Hang in there. Sure glad your running better!!(But you weren't slow by any means before so now your going to be untouchable!!)

Well I got it all back together on Saturday.
New filter and regulator. Got it as close as I could and wasn't able to get the lines the same length. There was enough room barely to mount it in the center between the two bowls but I would of had to put a 90 on the inlet into the regulator. So I opted against it and mounted it slightly forward of center where I could still adjust it and clear everything. It seems my fuel pressure is better. The pressure went crazy at first, don't know why, but got it dialed in. It is now holding steady as my old one would flicker slightly. Also it is more consistent than my old one as well.
I was almost in disgust with my fuel tank. Leak after leak. I have had the russel bulk head fittings in my truck the whole time. The washers they use bring the suck. I modified some -8 washers that were a lot better and held for a week then leaking again. I headed over to menards and found the mother load. A whole box of washers for a buck and a half, and also found some 1/8 thick rubber washers. Put the two together and bam leak free. I was almost on the verge of getting a new aluminum tank made up and some weld on fittings.
I am unsure if the problem is solved. I cannot get it to do it in a drag situation. Just the bog when it is under high rpm and load for an extended period of time.
Out: BG fuel filter 7 micron paper element mallory 5250 fuel pump Mallory 3 port bypass regulator. -10 in and bypass, and 3 -8 feed lines
In: Quickfuel prostar 500 pump Quickfuel large port regulator (dead head) -10 an in, two -8 out. Aeromotive 100 micron high flow filter. 7 inches long. -12 in / out.
I will be packing my jets at the next race just in case.

Aaron,
Glad you are so determined!! You have some real good stuff there. We were talking rather extensively about fuel systems a few day ago on another forum. There is a big discussion if there should be a filter between the cell and pump or not. All believe you don't want to run trash through your pump but some companies are saying that a filter before the pump causes cavitation issues. Causes the pump to try to suck when it's not made to and build up un-necessay heat. And if there is any restriction it may amplify the situation ten fold because and electric pump (as we know) can't suck like it can push so it really cavitates then.
YOu got to love Menards. Got me a killer 85 dollar cooler today for 45.00 on clearance!! Let us know how you come out!! Any chance of indy this week! there is a great bog there!!

Not going to Indy. One of these years I will make it. I would say gussies and then possibly miles and overlanders to finish out the year. I am almost out of fuel, I have enough to make one more race then have to grab some more for the rest of the year if I keep at it.
As far as the filter goes. I am a believer in it for the simple fact that we play in the mud, and lets face it, it gets everywhere. I clean out my tank on a regular basis and change filters as well too. The new one that I put on is twice the size of my old one. The old one was supposed to handle things fine, but with me running out of races to get it figured out I am throwing everything I got at it. So hopefully I will be ready to rock out of the box next year. The pump bypass is supposed to get rid of any cavitation. I also try to mount my pump as low as possible below the fuel to allow for gravity feed. My new pump is slightly different than the old so I have it temporarily mounted. I will lower it, but it only has to pull fuel up once it gets down to three gallons. I run with ten gallon in it which is good for 4 bog runs.
I am antsy to take it for a run. Like a kid with a toy at christmas with no batteries. Keep lookin at it playing with just waitin........
